OPEN RESEARCH DATA HANDBOOK – CALL FOR CASE STUDIES

The OKF Open Research Data Handbook – a collaborative and volunteer-led guide to Open Research Data practices – is beginning to take shape and we need you! We’re looking for case studies showing benefits from open research data: either researchers who have personal stories to share or people with relevant expertise willing to write short sections. Designed to provide an introduction to open research data, we’re looking to develop a resource that will explain what open research data actually is, the benefits of opening up research data, as well as the processes and tools which researchers need to do so, giving examples from different academic disciplines.

Request for Proposals for a study into how best universities can be supported in dealing with new open access demands

Open Call inciated by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) and the Wellcome Trust, submission deadline: July, 31st 2012, 17:00; maximum funding £20,000.

 The Finch report has stated that universities will have to be increasingly efficient in the way they pay for open access publishing in the form of article processing charges (APCs). 

Responding to the recommendation, JISC and the Wellcome Trust, on behalf of the UK Open Access Implementation Group (OAIG) are commissioning work to investigate how we can help universities, publishers and funders manage the charges efficiently and also what role an intermediary might play in making the process work smoothly.

Call for Entries: AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards

Deadline: All entries must be postmarked on or before 1 August 2012.

Entries are now being accepted for the 2012 AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards. The awards program was established in 1945 and recognizes outstanding reporting for a general audience in the sciences, mathematics and engineering. The contest is administered by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and endowed by the Kavli Foundation.
