30.000 Euro for open access publications: Johannes Gutenberg University, Mainz Germany established fund for open accessWissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler der JGU haben ab sofort die Möglichkeit, finanzielle Unterstützung für das Veröffentlichen von Beiträgen in Open Access-Zeitschriften zu bekommen. Die Universität hat dazu einen Publikationsfonds für die Finanzierung von Artikelbearbeitungsgebühren eingerichtet. Der für 2012 erstmals bereitgestellte Fonds umfasst 30.000 Euro. Berkeley to Join the Free Online Learning Partnership EdXThis fall, edX will offer seven MOOCs: artificial intelligence and software engineering from Berkeley, computer science and biostatistics and epidemiology from Harvard, and an introduction to solid state chemistry and an introduction to computer science and programming from M.I.T., along with another round of the circuits course it offered as a prototype.
Anant Agarwal, the president of edX, said that more than 120 universities around the world had expressed interested in working with the partnership.

Request for Proposals for a study into how best universities can be supported in dealing with new open access demandsOpen Call inciated by JISC (Joint Information Systems Committee) and the Wellcome Trust, submission deadline: July, 31st 2012, 17:00; maximum funding £20,000.
The Finch report has stated that universities will have to be increasingly efficient in the way they pay for open access publishing in the form of article processing charges (APCs).
Responding to the recommendation, JISC and the Wellcome Trust, on behalf of the UK Open Access Implementation Group (OAIG) are commissioning work to investigate how we can help universities, publishers and funders manage the charges efficiently and also what role an intermediary might play in making the process work smoothly.
